The Year at a Glance
As the world is moving faster than ever, technological developments have rapidly evolved and are redefining, among others, the way we live, learn, and teach. This expansive nature of the internet and technology demands new ways of adapting to this new virtual environment for all of us. As such, the use of new and more efficient instruments for delivering knowledge is continuing to grow across a broad range of industries. This way, virtual learning, and eLearning have become the tool of choice for learning and teaching worldwide, so to ensure your safety in the COVID pandemic we used virtual learning in addition to on-ground trainings to implement MEFOSA’s objective in creating sustainable development in the MENA region while applying local and international standards.
In September 2021, a Tahini factory located in Lebanon needs to be removed from the automatic detention list due to the presence of Salmonella during exporting Halawa and Tahini products to US. MEFOSA provided HACCP consultation to the factory in order to help them in updating their FSMA plan. The procedure included consultation on FSMA and HACCP implementation, auditing and implementing Salmonella detection protocol, addressing corrective actions and refilling as per FSMA requirements.
Appreciating the specificity and growing importance of Non-Governmental Organizations, Hospitals and Research Laboratories in the Universities, it was decided to establish the Institutional Sales and Tendering department at MEFOSA to handle this segment of the business. This Department is growing depending on the requirements of the Medical, Agricultural, Food and Water Safety Sector. Its objective is to follow-up closely with the requirements of tendering bodies.
2021 was filled with accomplishments and support to the SME’s and cooperatives. MEFOSA has helped several entities in capacity building, women empowerment, and business development in Lebanon and abroad. In January 2021, MEFOSA supported 4 SME’s to develop their food safety practices and marketing strategies to be able to export their products, under a project funded by Mercy Corps Canada. MEFOSA also supported a fish farm (Salmon) in Al Naassa to develop their farming and production strategies, under a funding program from Mercy Corps Canada.
